“I am the 1 in 4” hopes to empower university students to lead and participate in campus initiatives that aim to end various forms of interpersonal violence. Advocating for the eradication of violence on campus includes participating in conversations and exploring initiatives that contribute to the safety of college students. Supporting student groups that focus on campaigning against violence, and creating spaces for students who have experienced violence, strengthens campus communities overall.

Safety on campus impacts the well-being of college students and the attitudes, behaviors, and standards of campus communities. The following resources support our campus safety advocacy efforts to create safer universities campuses nationwide.

The Anti-Hazing Coalition (AHC) works to eliminate hazing through campus advocacy, student outreach, and impacting policy.

The Hazing Prevention Network (HPN) is a national, nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and engages campus communities in hazing prevention.

Substance Misuse & Abuse

I am the 1 in 4” encourages students to support each other. By working together, many forms of on-campus violence can be eradicated. In certain situations, timely medical attention might be needed to support someone and the fear police involvement may influence the decision to request much needed help. Students can research the medical amnesty laws of their university and/or state that might protect them if they seek medical attention for someone after engaging in illegal behavior(s).

The Coalition of Higher Education Associations for Substance Abuse Prevention (CoHEASAP) is an combined action alliance of higher education organizations and associations that seeks to combat the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and substance misuse and abuse among college students.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism offers materials to educate and encourage university students.
